Restaurant Customer Loyalty
by Matthew Clark
Are you looking to expand your business but are limited by the current size and layout of your venue?
This is a challenge facing many operators in an environment where physical space is limited and expensive. That said, new technology (such as online ordering) and participation in outdoor events are two ways you can grow your business whilst continuing to work within your existing physical surrounds. There are also added benefits such as strengthened brand recognition, increased customer loyalty and higher profit margins.
Online ordering
Online ordering in particular presents great opportunities to interact with locals, passers-by and surrounding businesses to drive new and repeat customers.
Use of smartphone technology within Australia is nearly world-leading and for restaurant and bar operators this means being able to interact personally with customers to allow for remote or in-advance ordering and social media interaction.
Online ordering can be as easy as joining services such as MenuLog to minimise the need for any IT or specialist development. Alternatively, a dedicated app can be created and then downloaded directly by your customers. Chains including Pizza Hut and Dominos have been leading the way in online ordering and the use of apps.
On the smaller scale, you may consider approaching various independent web developers or even IT students who can create similar functionality, at a competitive price.
Outdoor events
Outdoor event catering should be another consideration to promote your business to new markets.
Involvement in the likes of the Sydney Food and Wine Fair can see your venue operating alongside prominent Sydney bars and restaurants whilst also raising money for a good cause. Other significant events include Fair Day within Sydney’s Mardi Gras festival and the upcoming Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.
These events represent an opportunity for a cash injection into your business together with a chance to entice customers to come and visit you at your permanent location.
In summary, online ordering and outdoor events offer scope for your restaurant to grow in a more profitable way. So the next time you think of expanding your restaurant, think beyond the 4 walls.
